Styled Shoot: Outdoor Shower

This set was so fun to create and I will be bringing it back every summer for my clients to choose as a prepay bonus set as well. It is a fun alternative to the clawfoot tub or the normal wet set we have indoors at the studio. I recently purchased some fun body tape from @blacktapeproject and I wanted to shoot with it. I asked one of my long time model friends, Alex, to come and try it out. The application took entirely too long because it was my first time doing it, but with some practice I am confident I can make the transition quicker. We did precut the pieces prior to her getting there and the design was impromptu.

It honestly turned out better than I expected and I am so happy that now he offers waterproof tape as well because it definitely did not stick for long once it got wet (so this is your warning now if you’re thinking about buying it to get the waterproof one instead if your client will be shooting with water or they sweat easily.)

So with this outdoor set, I used the fake plants that I have in the studio. It is a whole process to bring everything outdoors so if you are going to offer something like this to your clients, make sure you have help to set up or give yourself ectra time. Whenever I come up with a new concept I want to shoot, I always shoot with a past client or model I have worked with before. Typically these people already know how I work, what I am expecting out of them and when they should be receiving the images.

I bought all of my fake plants on amazon and I recently bought wicker baskets for the base from Home Goods so its not just the ugly black planter it comes with. I live in Texas so its very hot and dry/humid depending on the month so I only offer this set in the summer. I try to shoot outdoors closer to sunset time because we do get into the triple digits. Beware as well when you shoot outdoors that other factors play into it i.e bugs, weather, other people.

My studio is located in a shared home of small businesses but I have the luxury of having the space that is closest to the backyard and a landlord that doesnt care what I do so I was able to create this set. The outdoor shower is from wayfair and cost me less than $200. the shower itself has an attachment that hooks up to a hose if you dont have a way to make it permanent. This made it easy for me to tear down when I was done!

It does get messy since the water makes the grass muddy but I did like that the shower came with a wooden foot piece so my clients arent just standing in a puddle of muddy grass during their shoot and getting worried about getting too dirty for their pictures. I did do an outdoor shower shoot one day (but i cant share the images) and we took them around noon which I dont recommend unless you have a helping hand that can hold a reflector for you or know how to shoot with flash.

Overall this set was so fun, and I was really excited to offer it to clients again and again!
